YOGA

YOGA

Over thousands of years, yoga has evolved to encompass a wide range of styles and disciplines that can be modified to suit all skill levels. It combines stretching exercises, called poses, with controlled breathing techniques to improve your strength and flexibility while also enabling you to manage stress and anxiety. Let our registered yoga teachers help you connect your mind and body in a relaxing environment.

The Mandala Center believes that yoga can help you achieve a meditative state which will promote not only relaxation, but also healing and strengthening on emotional and psychical levels.

YOGA - Yoga is a Hindu spiritual and ascetic discipline that involves controlled breathing, simple mediation, and specific body movements and poses. It is commonly practiced to achieve better health and relaxation through the uniting of the mind, body, and spirit. (Capacity: 15 people max)

MEDITATION & MINDFULNESS - Mindfulness, or meditation, is the practice of sustaining attention on one’s body, breath, sensations, and whatever arises in each moment. The objective is for the client to feel calm enough to gain awareness about their life, which can reduce stress and anxiety, enhance concentration, and improve the immune system.

TAI CHI  - Tai Chi, or “meditation in motion,” is an ancient Chinese martial art form that involves slow, gentle, rhythmic movements designed to enhance relaxation, inner calm, and peace. It helps reduce a client’s stress and anxiety while also improving their flexibility and balance.

FITNESS  - Fitness is essential to maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Physical activity not only increases a person’s strength and stamina, it also boosts their energy level and puts them in a better mood. The goal is for the client to turn physical activity into a long-term habit to promote overall health and thereby prevent and reduce the risk of disease.

WHAT YOGA STYLES ARE OFFERED?

Our registered yoga teachers offer classes in the hatha and vinyasa styles. Hatha yoga involves physical exercises (known as asanas or poses), purification procedures, breathing (pranayama), and meditation. The goal of a basic hatha class is to develop flexibility and balance while integrating breath into every movement, making it generally relaxing and restorative. It is recognized as a gentle introduction to yoga. Vinyasa is a fairly fast-paced style, sometimes called power yoga, that requires continuous movement throughout class. The most well-known vinyasa sequence is the sun salutation, a flowing series of lunging, bending, and stretching asanas. Clients should expect to do standing and seated poses that develop strength, flexibility, and balance.

WHAT SHOULD BE BROUGHT TO CLASS?

Although we have yoga mats for rent ($2 per class), we encourage clients to bring their own to class because it is more hygienic and will increase the likelihood that clients will practice at home. We provide bolsters and blocks free of charge. Clients may want to bring a hand towel and water; however, we suggest drinking before and after, not during practice.
