WHY DO PEOPLE SEE A PSYCHIATRIST OR PSYCIATRIC NURSE PRACTITIONER?
Clients see a psychiatrist or psychiatric nurse for many reasons. Some have chronic mental conditions like schizophrenia or bipolar disorder. Others simply have trouble coping with the many stressors of everyday life or need extra support to improve their lives. Many see a psychotherapist who suggested that medication might help with their condition. Psychiatrists and psychiatric nurses prescribe medications to reduce a client's symptoms and help them manage unwanted feelings and behaviors.
HOW OFTEN DO I NEED TO BE SEEN?
The answer depends on many factors, including the stability of a client's symptoms, the complexity of their case, and the type of prescribed medication. Clients often see their provider on a frequent basis in the beginning stages of treatment. Once the medications astabilize, clients are seen less often. The frequency of follow-up visits can range from once every month to once every three months, depending on the client's treatment plan. The Mandala Center requires those receiving medication from our office to receive treatment from a psychotherapist (with us or elsewhere) to properly support a client's behavioral health goals.
